MS4 Permit Updates
The Town of Summit is required to participate in the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) Storm Water Discharge Permit Program in order to meet the standards of the Federal Clean Water Act. This permit is required to discharge storm water to waters of the state through a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). The purpose of this permit and the program associated with it is to reduce the effects and regulate the amount of pollutants of storm water runoff that enter the waters of the state. The program requires the municipality to provide information and education to residential landowners, provide procedures for detecting and eliminating illicit discharges, create and enforce local ordinances to regulate erosion control and long-term storm water management and implementation of pollution prevention at all municipally owned facilities.
